NFL DRAFT BIBLE DAILY DOSE 3/28

BROHM TO MEET WITH FALCONS
The Atlanta Falcons, who own the third overall pick in the upcoming draft, are eyeing nothing but high-character prospects and will meet Louisville star QB Brian Brohm as early as next week, according to the Dayton Daily News. Members of the Falcons organization attended Brohm's Pro Day on Monday where he gave a phenomenal performance before NFL coaches and scouts. The 6-3, 232-pound quarterback ran a 4.6 in the 40-yard dash and lit it up during passing drills.

ON THE RADAR: DD TERRY
The Jaguars are reportedly "very high" on RB D.D. Terry.Impact: Jacksonville made no attempt to re-sign LaBrandon Toefield as a third back, and Terry could be the reason. If Fred Taylor or Maurice Drew goes down, Terry will be someone to watch. He might get carries over FB Greg Jones.

CHARLES GRANT HAD SURGERY
Charles Grant underwent surgery in January to repair a torn ligament in his left ankle, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Grant reportedly suffered the injury on Oct. 28 in a win over San Francisco. "Last year," Grant said. "I could have easily just hung my cleats up after I hurt myself in San Francisco. That's not my game. I played through the whole season, torn ligament in my ankle and couldn't really get the 'get off' that I wanted. The coach and the GM knew that. This organization knew that."

CARDS SIGN HAGGANS
Clark Haggans has inked a one-year deal (terms unreleased) with the Cardinals, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

MARE SIGNS WITH LIONS
Olindo Mare has inked a two-year deal worth $3.5 million with the Seahawks, according to NFL.com.

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED…
Detroit Lions president Matt Millen said he has total faith in Rod Marinelli and he must since the head coach has parted ways with so many of his high-profile draft picks and free agents, according to USA Today. Before Millen hired Marinelli in 2006, he drafted 12 players in the top two rounds. Those players should be the core of the team now, but Marinelli has parted with eight of them — including five this offseason. Defensive tackle Shaun Rogers (trade), running back Kevin Jones (release), defensive end Kalimba Edwards (release) and linebackers Boss Bailey (free agency) and Teddy Lehman (free agency) have all departed Detroit in recent weeks. They joined quarterback Joey Harrington (trade) and wide receivers Charles Rogers (release) and Mike Williams (trade), who departed previously under Marinelli. Marinelli often says that you become what you tolerate, and he will not tolerate players who don't live up to his standards. He told Millen what he wanted before he was hired, and he has "not wavered one inch."

NFL CONSIDERS CHANGE TO PLAYOFFS
Under the proposal, the two division winners with the best won-lost records still would be seeded Nos. 1-2 in each conference and receive first-round playoff byes. But the four other playoff qualifiers in each conference - the two remaining division champions and the two wild-card teams — will then be seeded according to won-lost records. Wild-card teams could be seeded as high as No. 3 in their conference and thus have a home playoff opener if an NFL competition committee proposal is approved by league owners next week in West Palm Beach, Fla., according to the St. Louis Post- Dispatch.

NFL DRAFT BIBLE DAILY DOSE 3/25

BROHM POSTS IMPRESSIVE FORTY-TIME
Louisville QB Brian Brohm ran a 4.61 forty at his Pro Day Monday, according to NFL Network's Charles Davis.

PATS WORKOUT JOHNSON AS WIDE OUT
The New England Patriots recently sent a high-ranking member of their coaching staff to meet with quarterback Josh Johnson for a private workout. The New York Times suggests the Patriots are looking at San Diego QB Josh Johnson as a wide receiver. The Pats love versatile players and could view Johnson, who was timed as fast as 4.44 at the Combine, as a slash-type player.

REPORT: KELLY’S KNEES A CONCERN
NFL Network's Mike Mayock reports that both of Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly's knees "are of such concern" that he may be removed from some teams' draft boards in April.

JEFF OTAH PRO DAY UPDATE
Jeff Otah, a probable first-round pick in next month's NFL draft, did not work out at Pittsburgh's Pro Day because he's resting his left ankle, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Otah, a 6-6, 322-pound offensive tackle, said he sprained his ankle prior to last season and that it never got a chance to fully heal. "I'm not 100 percent so this will give me some more time to get better and train better," Otah said today. Otah will work out for NFL teams on April 9.

’09 PROSPECT UPDATE
Florida junior WR Percy Harvin, one of the most explosive players in college football, could might miss the rest of spring practice because of a nagging heel injury. Harvin was wearing a protective boot earlier this week and is going to be re-evaluated before team doctors decide whether to shut him down for the spring. Meanwhile, Clemson RB James Davis, another solid prospect for the 2009 draft, will be sidelined for the rest of spring practice because of a shoulder injury, although the injury is not believed to be that serious.

HUARD ON THE MEND?
Chiefs coach Herm Edwards says he wouldn't be averse to heading into the season with Brodie Croyle, Tyler Thigpen, and a rookie on the roster.

MARSHALL OUT THREE MONTHS
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Brandon Marshall will miss the next three months after undergoing right arm surgery over the weekend.

SAINTS AFTER SHOCKEY
The New Orleans Saints reportedly offered the New York Giants their 2008 second round draft pick (No. 40) and safety Roman Harper for tight end Jeremy Shockey, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

49ERS TO EXPERIMENT ON DEFENSE
The San Francisco 49ers figure to run a hybrid 3-4 defense that also features a lot of 4-3, which would make sense after the club signed defensive end Justin Smith, according to USA Today. "He's going to be put in situations to make a lot of plays," 49ers GM Scot McCloughan said. "We would not have paid him the money we paid him unless we knew how to use him. You'll see him at end, you'll see him at tackle, you'll see him at times standing up. He's a special guy."

LANCE BRIGGS TAMPERING RULING
San Francisco has been forced to forfeit their 5-round pick at the 2008 draft after being found guilty of tampering with Chicago LB Lance Briggs. In addition, the 49ers will switch picks in the third round of this year’s draft.

CFI: LIVE FROM THE DOME: THE BIG EAST REPORT

BY CHRISTOPHER MOGOLLON
BIG EAST INSIDER

Big Winners

Syracuse -
There was nobody who thought the Orange could possibly win this game -- as 38 point underdogs -- this was a historic win. This was the best football played under coach Greg Robinson who earned his second conference win in three seasons. The quarterback Andrew Robinson was efficient and smart, making the tough throws and the easy ones, throwing for four touchdowns. Robinson hit the big plays throwing for 423 yards including a 79-yard touchdown pass to Taj Smith to open up the game. Smith showed nice hands and big play ability catching four balls for 173 yards including a 60-yard touchdown where Smith put the moves on a couple Louisville defenders before taking it to the house for about 50 yards of YAC. Even though they gave up 35 points the ‘Cuse defense was solid and made plays. Jameel McClain has been waiting to break out and it may have started in Louisville where he recorded a sack and an interception. Syracuse forced four turnovers in a 38-35 victory, as Louisville scored two touchdowns in the last four minutes to make it close.

Connecticut -
In what was supposed to be a battle -- the Huskies just walked all over Pittsburgh on their home field. The defense for Connecticut played their best ball of the year, forcing four turnovers and holding star freshman tailback LeSean McCoy to 70 yards rushing. The defense forced quarterback Kevan Smith to his worst game of the season, which included two interceptions and a fumble which directly led to 17 points. Smith had to be taken out at halftime after only completing 3/9 passes for 23 total yards. Pittsburgh did not convert any of their first seven third downs.

Most Lost

Louisville -
The most noise in Papa John’s Stadium on Saturday was the cheers when Mario Urrutia was taken out of the game after committing a personal foul penalty. In total, Louisville’s 12 penalties cost them 105 yards. For whatever reason the offense ignored their tight ends and running game and instead just kept on throwing the ball up for grabs. Brian Brohm did throw for a remarkable 555 yards and four touchdowns but wasn’t as efficient has his opponent. The secondary was just embarrassed leaving Syracuse receivers open for big plays numerous times, twice the Orange responded after Louisville scores with quick long pass plays for touchdowns.

Setting Up a Showdown

Both South Florida and West Virginia took care of business before their much anticipated match up on Friday night. Neither of these teams looked ahead and blew out their opponents. South Florida came out strong putting up 14 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Matt Grothe threw for 230 yards and a touchdown, he also ran for 35 yards. The running game was strong rushing for a total of 192 yards, with junior Benjamin Williams led the way with 64 yards and a touchdown. The South Florida defense held North Carolina to only 85 passing yards and 164 total yards. North Carolina was four of fifteen on third down conversations and turned the over four times. Meanwhile in Morgantown, it was the Pat White show. White was an outstanding 18/20, throwing for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Darius Reynaud caught five balls racking up 54 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a reverse for a touchdown and had a 12-yard run on an option play. The defense was just as good holding East Carolina to 54 yards passing in the 48-7 win.

Under the Radar

The Cincinnati Bearcats have quietly remained undefeated after a romp over Marshall 40-14. Junior Mike Mickens started the blowout with an interception and a fumble recovery to setup their first two scores. Dustin Grutza played most of the game throwing for 142 yards and was 14/20 with two touchdowns. Ben Mauk was 6/7 with 77 yards and a touchdown. Freshman receiver Marcus Barnett caught 6 balls for 77 yards, and two touchdowns, both coming in the third quarter.
